April update 2026

Junior footy is back—and we couldn’t be more excited! There’s nothing better than seeing kids out on the field, building skills, confidence, friendships, and a love for the game. Behind every great season is an incredible team of volunteers who make it all happen. From coaching and team managing to setting up grounds and running the canteen—our club simply couldn’t run without you. If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, now’s the perfect time.

March update 2026

Senior Women: With the season opener only a few weeks away, the excitement is definitely building. We kick things off with an away game on Saturday, 18 April at Drysdale. Our first home game follows soon after Lara V Bell Park on Friday, 24 April at 7pm at Bisinella Oval — the eve of Anzac Day. We’ll be holding a special pre match tribute to mark the occasion. It would be fantastic to see a big crowd there to support the girls. Canteen & Bar will be open.

February update 2026

Most members and supporters will now be aware of the club’s recent announcements regarding the senior men’s squad entering recess for the upcoming GFNL season. While regrettable, the Football Section is working with the LSC and the Netball Section to 1) continue our participation in all other grades and divisions and 2) commence a review and planning process to ensure we can emerge from recess in sustainable and competitive shape. AFL Barwon and the GFNL have been of great assistance to the club

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at the Lara Football Section. We look forward to seeing you all next year!!

November update 2025

The Football and Netball Sections each held our respective AGM on Monday 17th November. They were a bit later than normal this year because executive office holders had been away overseas following the completion of the GFNL season. In line with normal practice, the Chairman, Treasurer and Manager of Junior Programs each tabled reports on the season and offered those members in attendance an opportunity to ask questions.

October update 2025

While season 2025 has finished, it is still a very busy time off field and we are very happy to announce the signing of Cooper Langan to the senior team for 2026! Copper is a utility that can play both forward and back. He joins us from the Noosa Tigers where he played in 2024 & 2025. Please join us in welcoming Cooper to the Snake Pit!

September update 2025

Well done to our U14 Div 5 North boys’ side on their win in the grand final over South Barwon. Held at St. Josephs on September 7th, the game was a relatively low scoring affair, with our boys getting up 4.6.30 to 2.5.17. Harrison Pratt, Boby Rohde, Declan Fitzsimmons, Jed Wilson, Jak Phemister and Hudson Burley were all named in Lara best. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, officials and supporters on the win!

August update 2025

Season 2025 is already done for a number of Lara’s sides, including our women, U18 boys and many junior teams. However, we still have sides playing over the next couple of weeks, including in grand finals, and hope our membership and supporter base will come out in force to cheer them on.

July update 2025

Our senior women have had a tougher run over the last few weeks. Strong opponents and some unavailabilities among our players have seen our side drop their games since our last bye. With only 2 games and another bye left before the completion of the home and away season, we are now playing for pride. We wish them well for the rest of the season and hope they can finish well to encourage the side across the off season until 2026.

June update 2025

Our senior women remain a shining light for the Football Section, having won four games so far this season, and finishing well against strong sides in others. They still sit just below the top 4 in 5th position on the ladder. They will still face some very tough games as we move closer to the business end of the season and all of us here at Lara FNC wish them well. Our girls travelled toTorquay this week for a Friday night game – good luck.

May update 2025

Our senior women continue to show the way for the Football Section, having won the second and third games of the season. They now sit just below the top 4 in 5th position on the ladder. The side is thriving under our new co-coaches, Taiya Morrow and Keeley Hardingham, and showing plenty of growth in their competitiveness. The very top sides are extremely strong and it will take more work to bridge the gap, but the signs are very bright for the team.

April update 2025

Our senior women opened the season 2025 for Lara Football, having their first official game under lights at at Bisinella Oval on April 11. Facing opponents St. Josephs, it was our women’s first match under our new co-coaches, Taiya Morrow and Keeley Hardingham. Despite being down by 7 points at three-quarter time, our women kicked 3 goals in the last quarter to win by 7 points.

March update 2025

We continue to close in on the first round of season 2025. Our full club season launch is scheduled for April 5th. Planning for the day is well advanced. It will be open to all players and families to come along and see what's in store for season 2025 and have some fun with mixed activities and training sessions giving the chance to meet the head coaches and senior players, plus food and more on offer.

January update 2025

We hope all our committee, officials, support staff, players, volunteers, members and supporters had a wonderful and safe Christmas and new year with family and friends. Pre-season for our various squads is progressively kicking off after the Christmas break. Our senior men and women will have re-commenced by the end of January, with our U/18s and some junior sides close too.

December update 2024

Pre-season for our various squads has now wrapped up for the Christmas break. We can report that our senior men’s head coach, Brett Henderson, is very happy with the group, who have collectively shown real commitment to improving next year. Numbers at training have been very solid, noting that we continue to pursue strategic recruits for 2025 and continue to reach our target list size.

November update 2024

Pre-season has commenced for several of our squads, with our senior men, senior women, U18 boys, U14 boys and U16 girls all having completed one or more sessions to prepare for 2025. Our senior men’s squad has seen a bit of turnover from last season. Several of our older and/or established players have moved to other clubs, mostly other leagues in the Geelong area but in some cases to clubs outside the Barwon region. We are particularly encouraged by the new faces in our squad, with around 18

October update 2024

LSC Football Section held our Annual General Meeting on the 22nd of October in the club’s netball pavilion. Our Chairman, Treasurer and Manager of Junior Programs all provided summary reports for the year, with the highlights being a small operating profit for the 2024 season after taking into account a couple of extraordinary items, and a 15 percent YoY rise in junior participation excluding Auskick, which sees us approach but not yet return to Pre-COVID numbers.
