TEAM BALLANS

One of our junior teams has been named in honour of Shaun Ballans.

Shaun played all of his junior football at Lara before playing 198 games with the senior division of the club. He was a 4 time Best & Fairest player- 1989, 1995, 2000 and 2002- with his win in 1989 coming at just 17 years of age. Shaun's great performance on the field continued with runner Up Best & Fairest awards in 1990,1991 and 1996.

Shaun captained the Lara Football club in 1992,1993 and 1996 before taking on the role of assistant coach in the year 2000. He was a Premiership player in 1988 when he was only 16 years old and then again in 2002. Shaun was a regular representative player at Interleague football and also at the VCFL level.

Shaun received the honour of being named All Australian in 2000, was named in the Top 50 GFL players of all time and was then drafted to Hawthorn in the mid-season draft of 1991.

In 2004, the Lara Football Club introduced the "Shaun Ballans Medal" which is awarded to the Senior Best & Fairest winner.

Shaun moved to Queensland where his football career continued with the Southport Sharks. He is a 3 time Premiership player there, a two-time club Best & Fairest winner and has been inducted into their Hall of Fame
