April update 2025

Published Wed 30 Apr 2025

Our senior women opened the season 2025 for Lara Football, having their first official game under lights at at Bisinella Oval on April 11. Facing opponents St. Josephs, it was our women’s first match under our new co-coaches, Taiya Morrow and Keeley Hardingham. Despite being down by 7 points at three-quarter time, our women kicked 3 goals in the last quarter to win by 7 points. In their second match the following week, they came up against Geelong Amateur, a very strong side who outplayed our young side to win convincingly.

Our senior men began the year with a visit to St. Albans on April 12. This was a highly anticipated clash, with both clubs recruiting many new faces over the summer. It was a tough day at the office for both our reserves and senior sides, each going down by substantial margins. It reinforced the quality of the competition in the GFNL and the work ahead of the sides to regroup and prepare as well as possible for our next game.

Both senior men and women will headline a packed program of matches for our traditional ‘Spirit of ANZAC’ clash against Grovedale at Bisinella Oval this Saturday 26 April. Once again, this will be our most significant home game of the year. We want to see as many members and supporters as possible get down to the game to cheer all of our sides on. All are also invited to participate in our annual ‘Walk from the Gates’ led by a bagpiper, as well as our major commemoration ceremony at 3.50 on Oval 1. The ceremony will be particularly noteworthy this year because for the first time it will include our senior women and A+B grade netballers, as well as senior men, umpires and officials from the clubs and the Lara RSL.

Members and supporters may have seen the flyers on our social media sites, but if you haven’t, here is the program for the day:

10.00 Under 18 Boys

12.00 Reserves Men

12.15 Walk from the Gates

2.00 Senior Women

Approx 3.50 Commemoration Ceremony

4.15 Senior Men

If there are any boys or girls who are still thinking about playing this year, whether in Auskick or an older grade, parents can contact the club to find out more about our junior programs. We’d love to see as many local juniors as possible playing in the Cats’ colours this year.

Until next time, go Cats!
