Lara Football Club

TEAM GILLETT

A legend of our club, Jack Gillett has had the honour of having one of our junior teams named after him.

Jack first played senior football for Lara in 1947. He claimed the Best & Fairest trophy in that season which was the start of a 68 game career. Jack tied Best & Fairest with his cousin Rupert Gillett in only his second year but ended up being Runner Up on countback. He was part of the premiership team in 1952 and was a committee member from 1948-1971. Jack filled the position of secretary for 11 years and Vice President for 1 year. He was also still heavily involved with the football teams as a senior selector and U18 team manager.

Jack has a special link to the junior section as he and Roy Cook were responsible for establishing the first Lara junior team- which was an U18 team in 1958. Jack was awarded the honour of becoming a Life Member in 1964

Betty Gillett was a tireless worker for the Lara Football Club during the 1950's, 60's and early 70's where she was a part of the Ladies Auxiliary. Betty was always busy washing, drying and repairing the junior football jumpers and recieved Life Membership in 1971
