Most members and supporters will now be aware of the club’s recent announcements regarding the senior men’s squad entering recess for the upcoming GFNL season. While regrettable, the Football Section is working with the LSC and the Netball Section to
1) continue our participation in all other grades and divisions and
2) commence a review and planning process to ensure we can emerge from recess in sustainable and competitive shape. AFL Barwon and the GFNL have been of great assistance to the club as we resolve procedural questions and issues. Moreover, we are flattered and grateful that many of our sponsors, large and small, have already indicated they intend to continue to back us.
As we embark on the next phase of work, we urge our players, coaches, officials and volunteers, along with our past players, wider membership and supporter base, to stick with the club as our remaining sides, across both football and netball, strive for success.
An exciting start to Lara Junior Boys - all teams are now in preseason, and we are seeing players building on their skills, supporting one another and having fun, which is the main thing. We've had good numbers overall and look forward to seeing the registrations come through.
A huge shout out to our dedicated coaches and volunteers who have helped over the preseason, whether coaching, pumping up balls, sorting out sheds or joining in to support our coaches. Your efforts never go unnoticed and are deeply appreciated.
The under 14 and under 17 Junior girls have now been back training for a few weeks. Under 10's and under 12's return next week, and the excitement is building towards the start of the new season. The under 14's and 17's are heading to Eastern Beach on the weekend for some beach training and a sausage sizzle
The Lara U18 program has resumed training after the Christmas break. We are seeing strong numbers at training with boys now building momentum toward our first practice game in Mid-March. Our coaches Scott McLeod and Colby Bruce have established a training program to develop skill levels and to build the components of our game plan. We have welcomed Josh Walker as a specialist coach and mentor to the group. Not only is Josh a former junior player for Lara, but he also brings 139 games of AFL experience with Geelong Football Club, Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne. We look forward to having Josh share his experience with our playing group throughout the season.
We have welcomed several new boys to the club in the last few weeks. These boys have been fully welcomed by the team and are enjoying their new club environment. We continue to welcome new players interested in playing U18 football in 2026.
Our Senior Women’s squad is back in pre-season training, with Taiya Morrow being reappointed as our playing coach for the 2026 season. It’s great to see so many familiar faces from our 2025 group returning, but we are looking to grow. Whether you’re an experienced player or a first-time player. Come on down, meet the team, and have a kick.
We train on Monday & Wednesday night
6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
