Lara Football Club

The Lara Football Club is over 100 years old, established in 1881. Up to 1988, Lara won seven premierships in various leagues, including the Geelong and District Football Association. We joined the Geelong Football League (GFL) in 1989. GFL premierships: 1994 and 2002. Runners-up: 1992, 1993, 1995 and 2000. Proudly, many senior players are products of our junior system Current and former AFL players include Allen Christensen, Josh Walker, Devon Smith, twins Michael and Nigel Kol, brothers Damien and Marty Christensen and Jack Walker. We have many teams playing with GFL and GJFL competitions: Senior (men and women’s) and reserves sides along with junior boys and girls teams: Under 9’s through to U19 Colts, Auskick and an All-abilities team. This represents more than 500 players at the club.

Senior Women: With the season opener only a few weeks away, the excitement is definitely building. We kick things off with an away game on Saturday, 18 April at Drysdale. Our first home game follows soon after Lara V Bell Park on Friday, 24 April at 7pm at Bisinella Oval — the eve of Anzac Day. We’ll be holding a special pre match tribute to mark the occasion. Most members and supporters will now be aware of the club’s recent announcements regarding the senior men’s squad entering recess for the upcoming GFNL season. While regrettable, the Football Section is working with the LSC and the Netball Section to 1) continue our participation in all other grades and divisions and 2) commence a review and planning process to ensure we can emerge from recess in sustainable and competitive shape.
