Social Paddling Day – Coochiemudlo Island
Join Deaf Sailing Queensland (DSQ) for a paddling adventure to Coochiemudlo Island, followed by a relaxed picnic and social get-together with the Deaf community.
Paddle to the Island
Our paddling group will paddle across to Coochiemudlo Island by kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard (SUP).
Depending on participant numbers and available equipment, we may organise the group so that one group paddles to the island and another group paddles back. This will allow more people to participate, particularly where DSQ equipment needs to be shared.
Final paddling arrangements will depend on participant numbers, available equipment, weather, tides and water conditions.
Bring Your Own Equipment
If you have your own kayak, canoe or SUP, please bring it along.
If you have more than one kayak, canoe or SUP, please consider bringing your spare equipment to share. This will help more people have the opportunity to join the paddle.
Please let us know when registering if you can bring additional equipment to share.
Don't Have Your Own Equipment?
No problem! DSQ has a limited number of kayaks available to share.
If demand is high, we may organise shared paddling times or arrange for one participant to paddle to the island and another participant to paddle the equipment back.
Please indicate when registering if you need to use DSQ equipment.
DSQ equipment use fee: $10 per person.
New to DSQ? Come and Try!
Not a DSQ member yet? You are very welcome to come along and give our activities a try.
Visitors can participate in up to two DSQ paddling or sailing activity days before they need to become a DSQ member.
This gives you the opportunity to meet the Deaf community, experience our activities and see if DSQ is right for you before joining.
After your two visitor activity days, DSQ membership is required if you would like to continue participating in our sailing and paddling activities.
You are always welcome to attend social-only activities for free, even if you are not a member.

As this activity involves paddling across coastal water, weather and water conditions can change. DSQ will provide updates about weather, wind, tides, paddling conditions and any changes to the event.
The paddling activity may be changed, postponed or cancelled if conditions are unsuitable or unsafe.
Please check for updates before leaving home.
