Deaf Sailing Queensland (DSQ) offers a range of Adult Sailing Courses for Deaf, Hard of Hearing adults who use Auslan and is aged 18 and over.
Delivered in partnership with Humpybong Yacht Club and accredited Australian Sailing instructors, these courses are designed to give adults the confidence, skills, and knowledge to sail independently — in a supportive, Auslan-accessible environment.
What We Offer

Start Sailing 1 — Introduction to Sailing
Learn the basics of sailing, including boat handling, rigging, tacking, and basic safety on the water.
Ideal for adults with no previous sailing experience. -
Start Sailing 2 — Building on the Basics
Progress your skills by learning about boat speed, balance, capsize recovery, and basic sailing theory.
Suitable for those who have completed Start Sailing 1 or have equivalent experience. -
Better Sailing 1 — Skill Refinement & Boat Handling
Focus on refining your sailing techniques, improving boat handling in a variety of conditions, and building confidence to sail independently or with a crew.
Ideal for adults looking to enhance their sailing competence before moving into racing or advanced skills training.
