Out There Sailing is an exciting, skills-based program designed for teenagers who want to learn sailing in a relaxed, social, and supportive environment.
Delivered by qualified instructors with Auslan-accessible support, this course focuses on fun, teamwork, and confidence-building — with no pressure to compete.
What is Out There Sailing?
Out There Sailing is a flexible program offered in partnership with local sailing club specifically designed for teens who:
Have limited or no sailing experience and want to learn
Have some sailing experience but do not wish to compete at a club level
Simply want to sail for fun, enjoy the water, and connect with others
Course Overview
Boat Handling & Sailing Skills
Learn how to crew and handle either a Topaz Taz (for younger or lighter sailors) or an RS Quest Dinghy (for older or larger crews).
Crew Work & Team Sailing
Develop teamwork skills with paired or small group sailing — progressing to sailing independently as a crew without instructor support.
Tiered Learning Approach
Participants are grouped by age and skill level to ensure the program meets their growth and development needs.
Progression Pathway
As skills grow, teens have opportunities to move into advanced areas like:
Introductory racing
Man-overboard drills
Rescue techniques
Single-handed sailing challenges
Fun & Community-Focused
