Deaf Sailing Queensland (DSQ) organises Deaf cohorts to participate in external licence course within a culturally and linguistically safe environment. 

This licence course is essential for those wishing to operate a powerboat legally in Queensland (or other states) for recreational or sailing support purposes.

 

What Will You Learn?

  • Rules and regulations for recreational boating in Queensland

  • Basic boating safety and responsibilities of a powerboat operator

  • Boat handling skills, launching and retrieval

  • Navigation rules (collision regulations) and local requirements

  • Emergency procedures and use of safety equipment

  • Operating a powerboat safely in a variety of conditions

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age: 16 years

  • No prior boating experience required — beginners welcome

  • Must pass both a theory and practical assessment (as per Queensland regulations)
