For Licensed Powerboat Operators Wanting to Upskill for Sailing Support & Club Duties

Deaf Sailing Queensland (DSQ) organises Deaf cohorts to participate in external certificate courses within a culturally and linguistically safe environment. 

The Powerboat Handling Certificate course is designed for those who already hold a state-recognised powerboat licence but want to gain the skills needed for sailing support, race management, and rescue operations.

  • Escort, coaching, and safety boat operations for regattas and training sessions

  • Understanding the responsibilities of a safety boat driver

  • Operating powerboats around sailing fleets with minimal disruption

Prerequisites

  • A current, valid state powerboat licence (e.g. QLD Recreational Marine Licence)

  • Recommended minimum age: 16 years

  • Basic level of boating confidence on the water
