Social Paddling Day – Lake Samsonvale - for members who paid social fees in advance

Come along and join Deaf Sailing Queensland (DSQ) for a relaxed and fun Social Paddling Day!

Location: Forgan Cove, Lake Samsonvale, Forgan Road, Joyner QLD

Bring your own canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and enjoy a morning on the water with the Deaf community.

Not interested in paddling? That’s okay too! Come along for a picnic, catch up with friends, meet new people and enjoy a relaxing social day by the lake.

About Forgan Cove

Forgan Cove at Lake Samsonvale is a beautiful outdoor recreation area and the designated public launch point for paddle craft on Lake Samsonvale.

The area is suitable for kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding, with picnic and BBQ facilities available in the recreation area.

It is a great location for our Social Paddling Day because people can enjoy time on the water while others stay on shore, relax, have a picnic and socialise.

Please note: Paddling must remain within the designated public paddling area. Swimming is not permitted at Lake Samsonvale.

Bring Your Own Kayak, Canoe or SUP

If you have your own kayak, canoe or SUP, please bring it along.

If you have more than one kayak, canoe or SUP, please consider bringing your spare equipment to share with others. This will help more people have the opportunity to get out on the water and paddle together.

Please let us know when registering if you are able to bring additional equipment to share.

Don’t Have Your Own Equipment?

No problem! DSQ has a limited number of kayaks available for participants to use.

Because equipment is limited, we may organise shared paddling times so everyone has an opportunity to have a turn.

Please indicate when registering if you would like to use DSQ equipment.

DSQ equipment use fee: $10 per person.

Fees & Membership

DSQ Members:
Paddling activity fees apply according to your membership/payment option. An additional $10 equipment use fee applies if using DSQ equipment.

Non-members:
The paddling activity fee is $10 per person.

Non-members may participate in up to two DSQ paddling activity days before they need to become a DSQ member to continue participating in DSQ paddling or sailing activities.

If a non-member uses DSQ equipment, an additional $10 equipment use fee applies.

Socialising only – FREE!

There is no fee if you are coming along to socialise, have a picnic and enjoy the day without participating in paddling activities.

Social Picnic Morning Tea/Lunch

You don't have to paddle to be part of the day!

Bring your own picnic morning tea/lunch and spend some time relaxing and socialising with other Deaf people while others enjoy kayaking, canoeing and SUP paddling.

Bring a picnic chair or rug and make yourself comfortable.

What to Bring

  • Your own kayak, canoe or SUP, if you have one
  • Any spare paddling equipment you are happy to share
  • Hat and sunscreen
  • Filled water bottle
  • Clothing suitable for getting wet
  • Shoes or aqua shoes suitable for water activities
  • Towel
  • Change of clothes
  • Your own picnic morning tea/lunch
  • Picnic chair or rug

Personal flotation devices (PFDs/lifejackets) will be worn as required or instructed. Lifejackets will be provided, so you do not need to purchase one.

Before You Leave Home

Please check the DSQ Facebook page before travelling to the event.

Weather and water conditions can change quickly. DSQ will post any important updates about the day, including changes, postponements or cancellations.

Paddling activities may be changed, postponed or cancelled if weather or water conditions are unsuitable or unsafe.

Please check before you leave home – even if the weather looks fine where you are.

Everyone is Welcome

Whether you want to paddle, try kayaking, bring your SUP, have a picnic or simply catch up and socialise, we would love to see you there.

Come along and enjoy a relaxed day outdoors with the Deaf community!
