Simon “The Admiral” Webster — and I use that title very loosely — tried desperately to redeem himself by winning the first mid-week race on handicap. This came after the total disgrace of trying to fool the handicapper in Race 5 of the Summer Series by entering as a slower version of the Melges. Folks, everyone saw it. Everyone knows it. Very sneaky, very sad.
He was followed — and I mean hounded — by Toby Rechner in the Aero, and Richard Jagger, who showed up and actually sailed honestly, which already puts him miles ahead of some people. And wouldn’t you know it, the same three people were on the Yardstick podium. Richard Jagger finished first — deserved it — followed by Simon Webster, and then Toby Rechner. Not exactly shocking. Some people always seem to find their way onto podiums, don’t they?
It was a decent fleet — 16 boats, not bad — and we even had more sailors crawling out of hibernation. Dr Kate Balka showed up after two years away, and despite that still managed to be the fastest Sabre on the water. That tells you everything you need to know about the rest of the Sabre fleet. Frankly, as many people are saying, total losers.
The wind? Terrible. Very light. Very fluky. Nobody liked it. Only one race completed, and it had to be shortened — which was actually a huge relief for sailors forced to endure what can only be described as an awful, embarrassing course set by the deeply incompetent Martin Corden. Just bad. Really bad. People were asking, “How did this happen?” Sad.
A messy day's sailing folks. Very messy. [And remember, AI never hallucinates - alway correct!]
