This year we had a pre-season Icebreaker race and invited our friends at Westernport and Somers to join us. This was to the awarding of the Montalto Marathon trophies to those who could make it, and to thank John Mitchell of Montalto for their generous support of this race (WHICH MERRICKS WON!!). We had a fantastic turnout for our first weekend working bee for the 2024-25 season, although less arduous than in previous years because of the hard work of the Friday Gang's hard work. But there was still changing rooms to sweep, the untangling of the rock buoy lines (see photo - 'How many blokes does it take to untangle three lines?), launching of patrol and the placing of the rock buoys (in the wrong place). The Friday morning crew have done an amazing job with replacing the retaining wall, despite the recent assistance of the former club champion, Martin Corden. Great effort by Storm, Doug, Keith, Pete (current club champion) and Martin. The shed is now advancing at a great pace with the slab and early metal work complete. Recently the club was graced with a visit from Sir John who attended the club to receive his latest Magoo award. He was accompanied by Nurse Darby, who ensured all appropriate protections were in place, but declined Simon Webster offer to be subject to a full body search. Come and enjoy sailing and socialising at our friendly club on the beautiful sandy shore of Westernport Bay. The club has a long proud history and joyful spirit that comes from its active committed membership with the oportunity for members, who are looking to participate in race duty, can volunteer by accessing the online Duty Roster.

There are often after-race social events and our ever growing weekly Thursday evening gathering hosted by Sue Rutley, which starting at 5:30 PM for the now very popular happy hour.

Merricks Yach Club sail a wide range of off-the-beach and trailerable yacht classes which includes Multilhulls, A Class, Weta and Mosquito, with the ever growing monohulls clases that include Lasers, 420, Sabre, Pacer, Impulse, Melges 14, RS-Aero, Sparrow, Moth, Waszp and Optimist.  The trailerable yachts include the Castle 650 and Explorer 16 classes who are always looking for extra crew.
