History

As the governing body for badminton in Victoria, Badminton Victoria (BV) proudly upholds a rich history dating back to 1932.

With a membership exceeding 80 clubs, associations, and venues, and boasting over 7,500 registered players alongside a staggering 100,000 casual participants, Badminton Victoria has long been at the forefront of promoting and nurturing the sport across the state.

Badminton, recognized as a fast-paced and exhilarating sport suitable for all ages and skill levels, has flourished within Victoria's schools, leisure centres, and purpose-built facilities in metropolitan Melbourne and regional areas.

The roots of badminton in Australia can be traced back to as early as 1874, with the sport gradually gaining popularity throughout the early 20th century. By the 1900s, key competitive clubs had emerged, and the game became a favoured pastime for church groups, often played in church halls.
