Hi Members!
We have enough people interested to book the house for another RedClaw hunting weekend which is great, but we could do with a few more divers to fill the boat! If you are interested in staying up at Maroon Dams "Pointro Bunkhouse" and diving please sign up so we can confirm numbers and arrangements.
We have also had a few members enquire about joining us just for either Saturday or Sunday for a dive. I think we can accommodate this and pick up members from the public boat ramp so please also reach out to the club if that is something you would be interested in. Those wishing to join only for the day will still be asked to partially contribute to the costs of running the weekend, with the main expense being the bunkhouse booking. At this stage we would be looking for $30 from day visitors, which would cover your fuel and pickup from the ramp, + a Dive Ticket per dive.
Any further questions feel free to reach out via email, or come see Scott at the clubhouse most Wednesdays.

This trip is NOT weather-dependent. It's a protected area so we can go rain, wind or shine!
When: 20-22nd of November, 2026
Head up to the dam Friday Afternoon for Saturday and Sunday Diving
Where: Maroon Dam - Pointro Bunkhouse ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/fxJywN3jwqHeVVJn6 )
Cost:
$90 for a bed in the 'Pointro Bunkhouse' for both nights ($45 per night) This also covers the mandatory HipCamp fees and Diver 1 fuel for the weekend.
You can also book your own camping at Pointro Campsite.
$39 for Children 12 and under ($19.50 per night)
Fuel: We ask you contribute $15 (per day of diving) for fuel if you book your own camping.
Fishing Permit: $$ ?? (If you want to go fishing from Diver 1 when we're not diving. You need to source your own permit)
Dive: Maroon Dam - The Ghost Gums site was fairly interesting, lots of fish, fresh water turtles and planty of Red Claw Crayfish! So we'll be aiming for the same spot, past ~5m there wasn't much to see, but if you're keen to explore you could get down to ~15m near there. There is an existing exclusion zone near the dam wall and ourdoor education facilities in the north, though we'll expand that area for safety. Also keeping away from the Ski Club bay.
We won't be taking the portable compressor but with shallow diving you can have a long dive on a single tank!

Activities (beside Diving):
Camp Fire: I'll arrange some wood to bring and they have a fire ring at the Bunkhouse.
Fishing: Maroon Dam is stocked by the Maroon-Moogerah Fish Management Association. The dam is stocked with Ausralian bass, golden perch, Mary River cod and silver perch. Maroon Dam | Queensland Government
Yabbying: The dam contains Redclaw Yabbies - There is no limit or permit required to catch Redclaw at Maroon. If you have an opera style trap and a float, bring it! (Redclaw love Rockmelon/Honeydew rind for bait)
Saturday night BBQ: Please BYO meat and bring a salad to share
You will need;
Dive Gear (including weights).
Tanks.
Dive Tickets.
SMB - It's an active Skiing dam, so if you're not on the anchor line, send your SMB up first.
Your own Food and Drinking water. (The bunkhouse has rain water... your call if you drink it)
Pointro Bunkhouse has a cold room (plenty of space for soft drink) and a full (ish) kitchen for cooking.
Linnen/Bedding.
I would highly suggest a single sheet to cover their mattresses and something warm as the house can be a little drafty.
Mozzie Spray...
What next?
To confirm your spot in the bunkhouse please register for the trip and transfer $90 per person ($39 per chid) into the Club Bank account.
Let's go Diving!
