Published Thu 21 Mar 2024

The Shepp Feathers Champions Trophy, held on March 16th, 2024, at the Shepparton Sports Stadium, was not just a badminton tournament; it was a testament to the power of community and the pursuit of sporting excellence. With 32 teams, including 10 local ones, the event drew excitement from players and spectators alike.

From the crack of the first shuttlecock to the final match point, the tournament showcased breathtaking displays of skill and determination. The presence of distinguished Members of Parliament, including Sam Birrell, Wendy Lovell, and Kim O’Keffee, added a touch of prestige to the proceedings, underlining the event's significance on a national level.

The Shepp Feathers Badminton Club, formed in 2021 with a mission to promote badminton among women and children, has truly succeeded in its endeavor. Not only has it enhanced sporting skills, but it has also fostered physical and mental well-being and strengthened community bonds.

The tournament wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of sponsors like Monteleone Homes, Kim O’Keffee MP, HomFin Loans, and Bayleaf – Jacob’s Food. Their contributions not only facilitated the event but also contributed to the local economy, providing a boost to businesses in Shepparton.

In a heartening display of recognition, Sam Birrell MP awarded the winners with a cash prize of $1000, while Wendy Lovell MP and Kim O'Keffee MP presented trophies to the deserving champions. Sanish Sam & Ankur Bhatia emerged victorious, with Praguna Kapoor & Karan Arora securing the runner-up position, and Anandu & Tino clinching the second runner-up spot.

The Shepp Feathers Champions Trophy was more than just a badminton tournament; it was a celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and community spirit. As the curtains closed on this unforgettable event, Badminton Victoria stands proud alongside Shepp Feathers, to celebrate the memories of camaraderie, competition, and the indomitable spirit of Shepparton's badminton enthusiasts.
