Badminton Abilities Games Day - Open to All!

The Badminton Abilities Games Day brings together people of all abilities for a day of friendly and social team matches with adapted badminton and para badminton rules.

If you identify with any of the following, the event could be a great way to get active, meet new friends and connect with the badminton and para badminton community:

  • You or someone you know identifies as living with a disability or limited mobility
  • A beginner player who would like to try adapted badminton rules in a learning environment
  • A badminton player interested in trying para badminton in a wheelchair or standing/walking play

After entries close, each player will be allocated to a team.

Schedule

9:00 AM - Check-in and arrival, warm-up and team practice

9:30 AM - Match briefing and rules overview

10:00 AM - Team matches start (approximately 2 hours per round)

5:00 PM - Prize presentations and photos

5:30 PM and onwards - Community BBQ and socialising

Competition Overview

Please note that this is a suggestion and events and rules may be subject to change closer to the date.

Standing/Walking events

  • Games will be played based on SL 3 Para badminton rules (Singles: Standard badminton boundaries and rules except only using half a badminton court. Doubles: Standard badminton boundaries and rules)

  • Players will be allocated to a team for the day (2-3 players per team), ideally making the teams as fair as possible based on skill and experience level. The player ranking within the team will be determined by the event coordinator (i.e. Player no. 1 indicates they are the strongest player).

  • When teams are versing each other in the round, the following matches will be played:

    • 2 x Singles matches
      • Player 1 vs Player 1
      • Player 2 vs Player 2
    • 1 x Doubles match
      • Player 1 & Player 2 vs Player 1 & Player 2

Wheelchair events

  • Games will be played based on Wheelchair Para badminton rules (Front-section of the court is out of play and uses doubles service line at the rear of the court. Singles games only use half a badminton court)

  • Spare sport wheelchairs may be available for use on the day. We recommend you bring your own anti-tippers for your wheelchair.

  • Players will be allocated to a team for the day (4-6 players per team), ideally making the teams as fair as possible based on skill and experience level. The player ranking within the team will be determined by the event coordinator (i.e. Player no. 1 indicates they are the strongest player).

  • When teams are versing each other in the round, the following matches will be played:

    • 4 x Singles matches
      • Player 1 vs Player 1
      • Player 2 vs Player 2
      • Player 3 vs Player 3
      • Player 4 vs Player 4
    • 2 x Doubles matches
      • Player 1 & Player 2 vs Player 1 & Player 2
      • Player 3 & Player 4 vs Player 3 & Player 4
