Thanks, all for being part of our early season Spring Regatta. Remember, as discussed at the Delegates Meeting, we will have a debrief (how the regatta went, what to work on etc) about 7 days AFTER the regatta (but in this case Sunday Sun Oct at 11:30 at The Bower).

This event went as follows:

Originally this was planned to be at Lake Pegasus, but Aoraki Events team was notified at the last minute that another group (Model Yacht Racing) had booked the lake, so we switched it to be at Lake Rua, as a "Splash and Dash" event, with a Pursuit race added. The event is simplified as a one-distance race day, particularly because it will be the first time most of us will be on the water this season. Remembering, that Saturday night marks the beginning of Daylight Saving, and as per our News item in August (season fees and start date for training) it marks the start of Aoraki Summer Season including routine training nights.

Races were "Small Boats" crews but in Standard Boats, three-boats to a race. All racing is 250 metre sprint distance, with two heats, then Finals for the last race of the day. Scoring is based on 3 points for first across the line, 2 points for second, 1 point for 3rd.

Background:

The Spring Regatta replaces an event that was historically known as the Cobweb Blaster event. The Spring Regatta was first introduced in 2020, and we were very lucky to continue with this event despite moving into Covid alert level 2 the morning of the event. In 2020 this event was held at Lake Pegasus, but due to ongoing concerns regarding water quality, this was moved to the Avon for the 2021 season, then Lake Rua in 2022. However we now find that the water conditions mean that we can safely use Lake Pegasus at the start of our season.

Look forward to an exciting event to prepare us for the start of the season!
