This Adult Learn to Sail (ALTS) runs as an introductory 4-week program* with the option to extend up until the end of the sailing season. This expression of interest will help us plan for the upcoming season. At this point, please indicate interest if you are interested in participating. Minimum age is 15, up to mid-fifties as a guide. The cost for the 4-week introduction is $320. 

This course is conducted on dinghies that take a maximum of 3 persons. You need to have a good level of fitness and agility and be confident in the water. Your age and weight may be considered limiting factors, so contacting Wollongong Yacht Club, which runs similar programs on larger yachts, may be a better alternative if you have concerns. 

*Depending on the weather, the course may be extended a week to make up the loss of on-water time.

Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery.

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate.
