Mixed Male/Female Class

The Better Sailing 1 program at Port Kembla Sailing Club runs over 5 weeks and will enable you to build on your skills learned in Start Sailing. During this course, you will spend time on the water in either the RS Visions, as well as Laser dinghies. You are expected to attend all sessions to get the most out of the course.
To secure your place, there is aregistration fee of $100, refundableif you withdraw 2 weeks before commencement. The course cost is $320 (ie. an additional $220 payable 2 weeks before commencement of the course).
Port Kembla Sailing Club is located on the northern shore of Lake Illawarra next to Berkeley Harbour. It has a grassy rigging area, clubhouse with canteen, changerooms with hot showers, a sandy beach and plenty of parking.
The course will be conducted on the club's fleet of three, large and stable RS Vision and/or Laser dinghies. Instruction will be given by the instructor aboard a safety boat (RIB). If you didn't complete a Start Sailing course at Port Kembla Sailing Club, you will need to demonstrate a level of competency to attend this course. Courses are limited to nine participants with two instructors.
Throughout the Discover Sailing program, our AS qualified instructors will follow the Australian Sailing-prescribed syllabus, with an emphasis on learning and progression, while keeping safety and fun in mind!
After participants complete Better Sailing 1, progression is at the sailor’s discretion or the instructor’s recommendations.

Prerequisites
Water confident, reasonably fit and agile. Dinghy sailing requires the ability to move, squat, kneel, grasp and right a capsized boat and get back on board.

Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to improve their sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Better Sailing 1 completion certificate.

Better Sailing
A course for students who have mastered all the skills learned in Start Sailing 1/2. Sailors in Better Sailing will continue to improve their boat handling skills, learn and practice boat handling skills necessary to participate on a race course. It is also ideal for once-upon-a-time sailors who wish to get back into sailing.
Our courses are designed to assist you in becoming a competent sailor, confident enough to participate in club activities such as afternoon racing. That's when the real fun begins!

Course Overview
This course focuses on sailing in stronger winds and introducing extra equipment like spinnaker and trapeze to leverage the full boat potential on the water.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident, and you should have the skills, knowledge and experience gained from the Start Sailing 2 course.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to continue developing their sailing skills in dinghies.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Better Sailing completion certificate.
