What is Physie?

What is Physie?

Physie has been part of Australian life since 1892, bringing generations of girls and women together through dance, fitness, movement and friendship. Today, BJP Physie is enjoyed by girls and women across Australia. Each year, members learn a brand new syllabus that combines different styles of dance and movement, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and aerobic exercise, set to fun and familiar music.

At GHPC, we love that Physie is so much more than learning a routine.

Dance, fitness and movement

Physie classes combine dance, exercise and movement to help members develop strength, flexibility, coordination, posture, fitness and confidence.

The syllabus changes each year, giving members something new to learn and work towards. Routines are designed for different age groups, so members can learn and progress as they grow.

There’s plenty of variety too. One class might have you working on a dance routine, while another might have you stretching, building strength, practising posture or working on fitness.

More than just dance

Physie is about the friendships made in class, the confidence that grows when you learn something new and the feeling of being part of a team.

It’s watching a little one learn her first routine.

It’s seeing a shy girl become more confident.

It’s celebrating when something that was difficult finally clicks.

And it’s the friendships and memories that can last well beyond the years spent in class.

Something for every age

At GHPC, we welcome members from our youngest Glitter Girls through to our Seniors and Ladies.

You don’t need previous dance experience to start Physie, and you don’t need to be naturally flexible or sporty.

Our members all come with different abilities, personalities and experience, and everyone has their own Physie journey.

No experience needed. All ages and abilities are welcome.

Do you have to compete?

No. Competitions are an optional part of Physie, and members can choose how involved they would like to be.

For those who love performing and challenging themselves, there are competitions throughout the year, from club and interclub events through to Zone and National competitions.

For others, Physie is simply about coming to class each week, keeping active, learning new skills and spending time with friends.

There’s room for both.

A sport you can grow with

One of the things that makes Physie special is that it can be part of your life for many years.

You can start as a little girl, continue through your school years and come back as a Senior or Lady. For some families, Physie becomes something shared across generations.

At GHPC, we have members who have grown up with Physie, members who are discovering it for the first time and families who now share it together.

What we love about Physie

For us, it comes down to four things:

Dance. Fitness. Friendship. Confidence.

It’s learning something new, challenging yourself, making friends, having fun and being part of a community that supports you along the way.

That’s Physie at GHPC
