Frequently Asked Questions

1. What age can my child start athletics?

Children can join Cairns Athletics from 4 years of age. Age groups run from 4–6 years through to Masters (30+).

2. When are club nights held?

Club nights are held on Friday evenings from 5:30pm at Barlow Park during school terms (March to September). Please refer to the annual calendar for dates.

3. Where is Cairns Athletics located?

We are based at Barlow Park, 251–269 Severin Street, Parramatta Park, Cairns.

4. How do I register my child?

All registrations are completed online through the Revsport portal.

Parents/guardians must register themselves first before registering their child. After registering, you will receive an email with links to complete your child’s registration.

5. Can my child try athletics before joining?

Yes. New members may access a trial period of up to four (4) visits at $15 per visit. Trial fees (up to $30) are deducted if full membership continues.

Trials must be booked through the Revsport event portal.

6. Do you accept Fair Play vouchers?

Yes. Cairns Athletics accepts Fair Play (Play On) vouchers. Please select the voucher option when registering and email the voucher to cairnsathleticsenquiries@gmail.com. Vouchers must be submitted before their expiry date.

7. What uniform does my child need?

All registered athletes must wear the Cairns Athletics top at club nights. Club shorts are optional; plain black bottoms may be worn if club shorts are not used. Uniforms are available for purchase through the club.

 

8. What should my child bring to club nights?

Athletes should bring:

  • Water bottle

  • Appropriate running shoes

  • Club uniform

Spikes must only be worn during competition and not during warm-up.

9. What happens if it rains or there is bad weather?

Program changes or cancellations due to weather will be communicated via Facebook, email, and the club website. Updated programs are posted online.

10. Do parents need to stay at club nights?

Yes. Athletes under 16 must have a parent or carer (18+) present at Barlow Park at all times.

Parents are also expected to assist with events as the club is run entirely by volunteers.

11. How can parents help or volunteer?

Parents can assist with:

  • Track and field events

  • Canteen support

  • Set up and pack up

  • Coaching and officiating

Please speak to an Age Group Manager or committee member if you would like to help.

12. How are age groups determined?

Athletes are placed in age groups according to ANQ regulations, based on their age at the end of the calendar year. Athletes remain in that group for the season.

13. Can my child compete in carnivals and championships?

Yes. Fully registered members can compete in ANQ, QA, and AA events, including the NQ Championships. Nomination information is shared during the season.

 

14. What is the Sportsmanship Award?

In 2026, Cairns Athletics introduced a Sportsmanship Award for athletes aged 7 and above.

Positive behaviours may be recorded by coaches, officials, committee members, and parents via QR code submissions. Awards are based on consistent examples shown throughout the season.

15. What should I do if my child is injured?

All injuries must be reported to a committee member. Ice packs are available from the canteen, and there is a fully stocked first aid bag located in the Cairns Shed.

16. How will I receive club updates?

Information is shared via:

  • Email

  • Facebook

  • Club website

  • Announcements at club nights
