Don’t forget the canteen is open every Saturday from early to late. They have a great range of hot food and cold food available ranging from potato cakes and chips to salad rolls and fruit salad.

Syndal (14) VS Eastern Raiders (16)
After a slow start, Syndal came back with some great plays! Leon hit a double to right field, Eve caught a fly ball at first base and Sofia made a double play with a catch and tag at third base.
Lots of runs were made on the day and they were from: Iyla, Christopher, Howard, Emily, Harlow, Thomas, Eve, Jason and Sofia. Some of the team had their first ever score which is great to see.
Overall, Syndal played an amazing game since the other team is a really good team, especially with their base stealing in the first innings which got them lots of runs.

Week 2 - 21st October
Monash (1) VS Syndal (7)
Another seven inning game this week, but Syndal led all the way which was much less nerve wracking to watch. We welcomed back Sarah B and Cate for their first Open 1 game of the season and also Jess Chomley (Des Smith Award winner 2022-23) playing for Syndal rather than Storm this season.
Our opposition this week were Monash United, a team made up of several Syndal Storm players (including their coach), current Open 2 players and some other notable ‘retired’ players from Syndal and other Waverley clubs.
Jodi started the game with an 8 pitch at bat finishing with a safe hit to left field. A well placed sac bunt from Kate moved Jodi to 2nd. A ground out followed by a safe hit to centre from Cate scored Jodi, before another ground out ended the inning.
Three strikeouts for Sarah W and Syndal got a second turn at bat. This was scoreless as was Monash’s second inning. Top of 3 and Syndal were back to the top of the order. It started with a ground out before Kate hit a ball in to a space in left field. She made it home following a wild pitch and a lovely double to centre from Cate. Jess also doubled, this time to left, to bring Cate home. Miki laid down a perfect bunt to move Jess to 3rd. Miki was allowed to steal second so was in scoring position when Sarah W hit a single to centre. The hit brought both Jess and Miki home. Heading into the bottom of 3rd inning and Syndal were leading 5-0.
Monash failed to score in bottom 3 as did Syndal in top 4 (following a catching change - Steph Wulf (née Davis) appeared very grateful for this. Monash were two down after two batters in bottom 4, before a large hit to the fence gave Monash two bases and their second scoring opportunity. A second double scored Monash’s first, and only, run.
Monash made a pitching change in top 5 so Syndal were now facing Dale Psimaris (née Stocker). Unfortunately, it was another scoreless inning for Syndal. A five pitch inning to Sarah and Syndal came back into bat for top 6. A hit for Steph followed by a safe bunt from Audrey had Syndal once again in a scoring position. Confusion with a dropped third strike allowed Steph to steal 3rd and Audrey to 2nd. Kate forced an error to reach 1st allowing Steph to reach home and Syndal were now 6-1 ahead.
Syndal were soon back batting again following Monash’s scoreless inning. Cate started with a second double, this time to left field, followed by another hit from Jess which scored Cate. A second safe bunt from Miki moved Jess into scoring position and a walk moved her to 3rd with Miki at 2nd and Steph at 1st. We finished the inning with some confusion leading to an unfortunate double play, but still 7-1 ahead.
Monash started their last inning with a safe hit, but were unable to score it and the game was over.
Sarah led the way with strikes this week, she had 7 compared to a combined 4 from Monash. Syndal found their bats this week with 13 hits compared to 4 for Monash. All hits bar one are mentioned above, the missing one was another single from Cate in top 5, making her top batter today with 4 from 4.
Let’s hope that future wins are more like today’s game rather than last week’s game.
