Week 5 - 4th November

Syndal (20) VS Blue Diamonds (6)

What a game!
Blue Diamonds managed to score five runs in their first inning and Syndal took three outs, so the ninth batter rule didn't come into play. Sofia took a great catch at first base to get their first batter out and then a strike out and a ground out at first base took two more of their batters.

Syndal came up to bat with a different batting line up to the last few weeks. We had seven of our nine batters all managing to hit the ball and make it safe to first. Only three needed a coach's pitch. A big shout out to Leon who hit his first pitch to right field and made a home run!

In Blue Diamond's second inning they only scored one run as Syndal again took three outs. Another great catch at first this time from Emily, another strike out and an out with someone trying to steal home.

Then it was Syndal's turn to bat again. Again seven of the nine batters hit the ball and made it to first - this time four needed a coach's pitch, Christopher and Leon both hit wellbut both had to stop at second as per the rules.

Unfortunately, Blue Diamonds didn't want to go out from another bat, so we were unable to make more fielding changes, but I don't think we'll complain having been at bat for as long as we were this week.

Thank you to Cheryl-Anne and Caitlin Olley who stood as the coaching pair this week at Glen Eira. And also a thank you to Tamar for being our plate umpire

Week 4 - 4th November

Syndal (2) VS Brandon Heights (3)

A sunny afternoon on Diamond 9 brought our first loss of the season. And once again, in traditional Syndal style it was only right at the very end was the score decided.

Syndal batted first and couldn’t quite get their timing right with Brandon Height’s pitcher in their first two batting innings. Brandon Heights scored two runs in the bottom of the second that only included one safe hit (a bunt), but some fast running moved their runners around on every opportunity they could.

Top of third and Sarah W hit safe to left field, followed by another hard hit up the third base line from Steph. Unfortunately, a large fly to right, a great sac bunt and a ground out stopped Sarah from reaching home.

The next two complete innings saw two hits, one a piece for both teams, with Steph hitting to left field, but was unfortunately left on base again.

Top of sixth and two batters down, up comes Sarah B to hit a huge hit over the cones and Syndal score a run back. This feat was repeated in the top of seventh by Courtney M and Syndal were even heading into the bottom of seventh.

Brandon Heights who had not had much luck with the bat either managed to get a safe single to centre and then on came their DR. This was followed by a second strike out and the possibility of a tie break was on the cards. A single to left moved their runner into scoring position and then up came Brandon Height’s pitcher who managed to connect with the ball in the opposite direction to her first three at bats and a missed catch scored the winning run.

With the exception of Syndal’s first at bat which was a looking strikeout, every player connected and either hit safe (only five today), grounded out (many to a consistent shortstop) or large fly balls that managed to find gloves and not free space! It wasn’t a big safe hitting day as Brandon Heights only had one more safe hit than Syndal.

In the battle of the pitchers, Sarah W took 12 strikeouts to BH’s 1. Let’s hope that this loss is our only one for a while.

Open 3

Week 4 - 4th November

Syndal (0) VS Brandon Heights (12)

The ladies started out strong in the field against BHSC with 4 batters up and 3 outs only for BHSC to return the favour with our first 4 batters up with 3 outs. From there unfortunately it didn’t go so well with lots of fielding errors and our bats never really got warmed up.

There were some positives though with some great relays in from the outfield, Lena took 2 very high and difficult pop flies. Hayley was solid at 3rd base and had a great hard hit ground ball to centre field. Sal hit a lovely double over left field.

Singles to Megan, 2 to Molly and a double to Sal the highlights.

A blend of youth and experience. Still greeting players having their 1st game this season, and we haven’t had the same 9 yet but we are getting closer to our 1st Win.

Andy & Tracey.
