Christmas Party MOVED to Saturday Dec 16th

Update your calendar because the Christmas Party will now be held on Saturday 16th December. It’s BYO food & drink - plus the bar will be open for beer, wine & softdrinks.

Sat 18th November - Working Bee

Please come and lend a hand on the 18th November for one of our scheduled working bees. These are critical for general maintenance, small building works and general tidying and cleaning up. Paul Westcott will have a list of jobs that need doing, some requiring handyman skills, but most suited to all members. Starting at 9am and likely to finish by noon.

Sat 2nd December - Shakespeare

Our local Scotland Island acting troupe Such Stuff Productions are back with another modern twist on a Shakespeare classic: “As you like it”. Last season they performed two plays that were very well attended and much enjoyed. The Troupe just loves our location and using the deck, balcony, pontoon etc as part of the stage. This year they will put on two performances on the Saturday, one at midday and the other at 5pm with the bar open for both. 15th - 18th January Kids Sailing Camp

We are running a four day sailing camp from the 15th-18th January. The camp will run two streams concurrently; one for beginners and the other for those who want to improve their skills. The camp is open to members and non-members alike. If your kids are looking for something to do in the holidays - this is an excellent 4 day program. If you have friends whose kids may be interested in giving sailing a go - this is a perfect way to try it out. Kids that really enjoy the experience can then join Blue or Red Group for the rest of the season. If you can lend a hand, or just be around on any of the days - then please let Kingsley know.

Registration is via the website: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/avalonsailingclub/events/213077/

The Friday Sessions

Members are heading down to the club every Friday from about 4:30pm with family and friends to enjoy the magic early evenings on Pittwater during summer.  BYO food & drink - friends & family. In most cases the bar will be open if you find yourself short. Some are rigging up their boats and going for a sail, some are jumping off the pontoon and others are just kicking back after a working week with a cold beverage and BBQ dinner. We have been talking about getting the puffins rigged and having a sail around marks, but have yet to get enough participants on the day. If you’re interested send me an email commodore@avalonsailingclub.com.au or call me 0431 734147.

Yacht Racing

If you have a yacht, or a friend with a yacht, but yet to participate in any racing then I strongly encourage you to give it a try or encourage that friend of yours ! Our races are all conducted under the PHS handicapping system which means that every entrant (no matter how slow or inexperienced) has the chance of winning under corrected time. The PHS system benefits the boats that are improving the most. You can enter races on a casual per race basis, or specific series. We sail 5 or 6 different series allowing you to sail anything between once to every Sunday a month.

But “i’m not interested in racing my boat” I hear you say. Well, you will learn a hell of a lot about how to get the most out of your boat and her equipment so that when you go cruising, you’ll reach your destination more enjoyably and with more time to enjoy that sundowner. There’s a small chance that you’ll really enjoy it.

Information and race entry links are on the yacht racing page on our website: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/avalonsailingclub/yachts/yacht-racing/

Make sure to make the most of the club and your boats this season, and I look forward to seeing you out on the water or on the verandah enjoying the view.

Ralf Moller

Commodore

Ps. The club runs so well because of the members who volunteer their time - so please don't allow that burden to fall on others and be sure to make your contribution - you'll enjoy it !
