Historical Office Holders

In 2022 the club secretary, James George, reviewed the original historical records in our possession to establish a list of office holders. The records are largely minutes of meetings and AGMs going back to the 1945-46 season. Up until the late 1950s most are handwritten, after which they are typed. We have a project to digitize these paper records to preserve them for future generations.

This list only shows the four key positions, whereas the total number of office holders and positions varies greatly from year to year. A comprehensive list of all office holders is being prepared and will be made available once completed.

The curious case of the 1956-57 season

The oldest honour board at the club was commissioned in 1963 and lists the President and Club Captain from the 1956-57 season through to 1972-73.

In 2022 the club received an enquiry questioning the accuracy of the list of Presidents which initiated a project to review the physical records kept in storage to produce a list of office holders as far back as possible. The 1956 AGM documents the election of G Gregory and J Higgins as President and Club Captain. The 1957 AGM documents G Gregory handing on the Presidency to P Rudder. In 2023 committee members made every effort to find a reason why P Rudder & J Lingard are listed on the honour board as President and Club Captain for the 1956-57 season, and could find none. Rather than alter the honour board that was commissioned in 1963, the Committee decided unanimously to create an honour board going back to the earliest records available (1945-46) to list the founding families which includes those responsible for the construction of the club house. This board will cover the seasons from 1945 to 1957, so that G Gregory and J Higgins are recognised as President and Club Captain for the 1956-57 season as per the documented historical record.
