Flying 11

Flying 11

ASC has a progression of centreboard classes to suit all levels and ages. The Flying Eleven is designed as high performance racing skiff suitable for older junior sailors. It is an excellent follow-on boat for Optis, Sabots, Manly Juniors & other junior classes. The Flying 11 class is very strong around Australia, with National regattas attracting fleets of over 100 boats. In the last few years alone, over 100 new boats have been launched - a statistic unmatched by most other dinghy classes. High performance sailing is fast becoming the goal of a great many dinghy sailors with the appearance of 49ers as an Olympic class. Racing is competitive with many previous sailors going on to become world or Olympic Games champions in other classes. The Flying Eleven is a logical step in the transition between junior classes and prepares young sailors for classes such as Cherubs, 420s, 470s, 29ers, Moths, 13s or even 49ers.

ASC have had a long association with the Flying 11 class, having produced National and State Champions.

Typically the helmsman is aged 12~18 and the crew 10~18 years old. Combined crew weight is usually in the 75-115Kg range. While sailors typically come to Flying 11's from other feeder classes, ASC do support new sailors (in an appropriate age/weight range) learning to sail in their own Flying 11.

Coaching suitable to skill levels is provided at all levels, using both internal and external coaching resources.

There is some scope to store your boat at ASC (fees apply) and there is an active 2nd hand market for Flying 11s so you should be able to purchase one that would suit your budget. If you'd like to find out more, then please contact the Class Captain below:
