This is a loosely structured coaching course aim at helping recently graduated RED groups sailors prepare for racing in the afternoon GOLD fleet as a rookie.

Skills coaching to be offered are:

  • Basic rules of racing
    • Right of way
    • Windadward boat keeps clear
    • Mark roundings
  • Tuning the boat for the conditions
    • Depowering in stronger wind etc.
  • Roll Tacking and Gybing
  • Spinnaker
    • Setting
    • Retreiving
    • and Gybing
  • Starting the Race
    • Understanding the flags and signal on the committee boat
    • Positioning the boat on the line
  • Responding to lifts and knocks in the wind
