Manager & Scorer Guidelines

Team managers are essential to the smooth operation of both training and game day here at North Shore. They play a key role in ensuring that players are safe, organised, and informed, and that teams meet all competition requirements. While many of the responsibilities listed here are tailored toward junior teams, the same principles apply across all age groups and grades.

Key Responsibilities of Team Managers:

• Stay Informed: Be aware of the weekly draw, Association requirements, and your team’s duties, including umpiring, set-up, and pack-up responsibilities.
• Player Welfare: Managers are responsible for the physical well-being of players during both training and games.
• Emergency Preparedness: Always have access to player/parent contact information, next-of-kin details, and key committee contacts.
• First Aid: A first aid kit is available in the canteen and female change rooms. Where possible, carry a small first aid kit and ice packs in your team’s kit bag to games and training.
• Training Supervision: Junior team managers must stay with the team during training. If unavailable, they must arrange another responsible adult to supervise.
• Game Day Supervision: During junior games, managers have control of the players on the field and should remain with the players at all times. This includes:
  • Ensure players not currently on the field remain on the bench.
  • Confirm all players are in correct uniform, including compulsory shin pads for juniors.
  • Manage the batting order to prevent players from batting out of turn (for teeballers, consider marking numbers on their hands).
  • Involve bench players with roles such as bat person, helmet person, tee person, or foul ball retriever to keep them engaged and feeling part of the team.
• Managing Shortages: If your team cannot field 9 players on game day, the manager should liaise with other club managers to request a play-up. Manager should ensure that play-up rules are not breached.
  • Players from lower grades can fill in for higher grade teams
  • Senior teams can use junioe teams as play ups with the following restrictions:
    • No play across is permitted in Division 1 or A Grade.
    • Division 1 players may only play up in A1 Grade or higher.
    • Division 2 players may only play up in B1 Grade or higher.
    • No restriciton on play ups into Div 1 or A grade but players must still participate in their registered team’s game on the same day 

By understanding and fulfilling these responsibilities, managers help provide a safe, organised, and enjoyable environment for all participants—players, parents, and officials alike.

Scorers play a crucial role in maintaining accurate game records and ensuring competition integrity in community softball. Whether you're new to scoring or have some experience, your contribution is essential to the smooth running of each game and the season overall.

Key Responsibilities of Scorers:

Entering Results: Scorers are responsible for entering team results directly into the RevSPORT Club websites under the competition section. The RevSPORT website provides instructions for how to complete this or reach out to your club committee for assistance as needed. 

Entry of results per team is the responsibility of the nominated team official. Online results must be submitted by 5pm on the Sunday after game day otherwise a forfeit will be applied to the team not meeting the deadline. For completion, the score must be entered, players checked off and the MVPs and K2s added for each team. 

Things to remember to add into RevSPORT:

• Enter umpire details for the game
• Enter the final score
• Mark off attendance for your team, including play ups / across team members 
  • Any players used as play ups/across from a team other than from your own team's club (which can be entered online) need to be advised to Lynne ASAP so that records can be updated for the match. You can notify Lynne via text or email, preferrably prior to or at the time the player is used.
• Capture MVP points for your team (3, 2 and 1) from the opposition coach at the end of each game
• Enter the number of K2s for each of your pitchers per game

Other things to note:

• NSDSA offers Level 1 Scoring courses each year to interested participants.  This course will give you a good overview of the scoring process.
• Each Club also has several very experienced scorers who are always happy to be of assistance to new scorers, either over the phone or on the field. If you require assistance, please contact a committee member who can put you in touch with an experienced scorer for assistance
• Remember, when scoring you must write up both your team and the opposition team in your scorebook.
