Calisthenics is a uniquely Australian artistic sport, with its name derived from the Greek words ‘kallos’ (beauty) and ‘thenos’ (strength). It involves a team of participants learning intricate routines choreographed to music, combining elements of modern dance, gymnastics, acro, ballet, musical theatre, marching, apparatus technique, performance skills and much more.
As a sport, calisthenics enhances coordination, rhythm, balance, fitness, strength, flexibility, and poise, while fostering self-confidence and team spirit.
As an art form, it nurtures an appreciation for music and rhythm, encourages self-expression, and celebrates the joy of performing on stage.
Being part of a team also teaches valuable life skills such as teamwork, commitment, responsibility, sportsmanship, as well as developing lasting friendships.
