New to hockey and keen to give it a go? Our Come and Try sessions are designed for players who are brand new to the game and want to sample hockey before committing. Sessions are held on Saturdays at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation from 12-1pm.
These free sessions offer a fun, inclusive and pressure-free introduction to hockey, giving players the chance to learn basic skills, build confidence and see if the sport is right for them — all while making new friends. No prior experience is required.
The program is intentionally short and flexible. Players are encouraged to attend a few sessions to get a feel for the game, rather than committing to a full term. Our experienced coaches focus on core skills, simple gameplay and enjoyment, while creating a welcoming environment for new players and families.
All equipment can be provided if needed, though players are encouraged to bring thier own mouthguard and shin pads if they have them.
After attending a few sessions, players who enjoy hockey will be supported to progress into our Super 6 training program or our Minkey Academy, where they can continue developing their skills and transition into team-based training and competition when ready. If you're still unsure after pre-season is over, then we can bring you along to a comp day in terms 2 & 3 and you can dip your toes in the water to see what game day is like before you commit.
Hockey is an inclusive sport played by boys and girls of all abilities, with pathways for social and competitive play well into adulthood.
Come and try hockey for free — then take the next step when you're ready.
*This program is run in conjunction with our friends at Northern Beaches Hockey Comps (WHA). If you have already registered on the Warrigah Hockey page, you do not need to register again here.
