SHANE THEILE (Awarded 2002) Shane first came to Flinders as a young schoolboy athlete 12 years ago. During his 12 years with our club he has been an inspirational and much admired young man who has proved to be a born leader who has excelled at all duties he has undertaken.

In official capacities he has held the positions of President, Secretary, Registrar, Committeeman, Newsletter writer and Club Captain. Some of these positions he held for up to 5 years. Sometimes he has undertaken the responsibilities of more than one person at a time.

As an athlete he enjoyed considerable success winning numerous State Championships both on the track and in Cross Country competition. Every year he has been a State representative both n the track and in cross country competition. Shane’s 13th placing in the Open 12km Cross Country at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Melbourne in the year 2000 left him only a few places away from selection in the Australian Cross Country team.

In pro running Shane has achieved considerable success including being named Australian Pro Athlete of the Year several years back. His numerous wins in Pro Athletics include winning  races at the prestigious Stawell Easter Athletic Carnival, including winning both the major  & 2 mile races in the one year. In 3 consecutive years he won once and was placed twice in South Australia’s most prestigious mile race, the Select Open Mile run at the Bay Sheffield carnival. His greatest moment came at Lyndock when he won the Lyndock 10km Hills Classic defeating a very strong field which included several international athletes.

Shane is now the development officer for Athletics SA, a position he has excelled in. Testimony of this is the very impressive number of young athletes who now compete regularly in Interclub competition at Santos.

ROBBIE KILLMIER (Awarded 2014) became a member of the Flinders Athletic Club in season 2001/02 and has been a member ever since. In his 15 years at the club, Robbie has been one of the major players in everything the club has been involved in.

Robbie has sat on the Flinders AC committee for 10 years, having started on the committee in 2006/07. For several of those years Robbie acted as Vice President. He was an invaluable support to Shane Thiele, Kym Freer, Grant Oates and Claire Ashman during at their stints as club President.

Robbie is one of the first to put his hand up to help the club, evidenced most recently by his involvement as the coach of the City Bay training squad on Sunday mornings. Prior to this, and to this day, Robbie has always acted as a mentor and a mate to many runners out at Flinders.

On the track Robbie has represented Flinders with great success. He is a multiple 800m State Champion and is on the impressive list of blokes who have won the State 1500m title on the one occasion. Very few have won it more than once. At the Bay Sheffield Robbie has won the Select Invitational mile twice and won the 800m event. Not many people have won 3 events at the Bay!

With the club heavily focused on winning the State 4 x 800m relay each year, Robbie has been a star performer and was a big part of the 20 successive victories, probably featuring in at least 10 of those, quite often as the key anchor leg.

There is no one more deserving of Flinders AC life membership. Robbie came to the club in early High School and has had the club at heart ever since.

JORDAN HARVEY (Awarded 2020) Jordan Harvey first became a member of the Flinders Athletic Club in 2000 after joining the Toby Schreier group in 1999. In his 20 years at the club, Jordan, has competed, and still competes in track, cross country and SAAL events.

Off the field Jordan sat on the Flinders AC committee for a number of years, taking on roles of ASA Representative, Recorder and Secretary. He has also volunteered on numerous occasions to help out where needed.   In February 2018 Jordan was appointed Club Head Coach (Middle, Long Distance & Cross-country). A role that he has taken on enthusiastically and has built a strong team environment. He emphasizes working together which I think comes from his original training group he grew up with in the early 2000’s.

Jordan has been a mate, training partner and mentor to not just me, but to many of our long time athletes in the club. When we were training in the early days, I referred to Jordan as the bullock who would take the lead and do the hard work at the front of reps when the going got tough. This on many occasions sacrificed his session in order to get me and others through. This shows his character, which he continues to apply to this day in sessions with his new crop of athletes.

On the running track Jordan has represented Flinders at both a state and national level, along with winning multiple sashes in the SAAL including the Bays Sheffield. He made the majority of state cross country team throughout high school years and was also competitive on the track. I think some of his personal highlights are winning his maiden sash at the Bay Sheffield after more than 10 attempts, representing his state, and he loves a club relay. Jordan continues both to train and compete, especially now he very much considers himself a veteran. Jordan still feels he has got plenty to prove as an athlete but he even more so wants to improve many others as a coach.

I feel Jordan is very deserving of a Flinders AC life membership for his contribution to the club, both on and off the track. He is a great mate, club man and now transitioning into a great coach.
