CLUB COACHES

WARREN FUSS (DIRECTOR OF COACHING) & (ACADEMY 200/400 COACH) - Athletics Australia Level 2 Club Coach – particular focus on 200m/400m.

Warren went to Enfield High School and competed for Enfield Harriers breaking All Schools State records (U16) 1970....100, 200, 400. The 400 stood until around 2010. Competed at Australian  titles (Sydney) 73/74. PB's 10.7, 21.8, 48.8 on the old rubber and tar compound track at Kensington.

Life took over then and he didn't return to the sport until his son Brad commenced Little Athletics at Millicent 87- 89 after which Warren moved back to Hallett Cove and went to Noarlunga Little Athletics in 89/90 and served as the Comp and Tech officer 2 years, Secretary 4 years, President 3 years, then went on to be Secretary Southern Athletics Club 3 years.

From a coaching perspective Warren really took this up as a secondary thing while doing the club administrative roles as both his sons Brad and Matt showed potential. He then continued coaching within both Clubs to encourage other kids. Brad particularly was successful at state level with 100, 200 & 400 titles and a regular state representative, with Matt just behind him.

Warren completed the Athletics Australia level 1 sprint course at the time and then did some high school coaching for ASA in 1999/2000 while he was between careers for a short time.

Warren says, ”most of my coaching has been self-taught from experience, although I did correspond regularly through that period with John Daly who coached me for my last couple of seasons. He was a terrific mentor, highly qualified as an Olympic coach, and I relied on him to make sure I wasn't over stepping the mark with training too advanced for the kids current development and age.”

More recently in 2020, Warren joined the coaching panel at Flinders Academy. In recent times he has been instrumental in developing our 200m/400m athletes, transforming training into competition performance, focussing on pre-race preparation and particularly "how to run a 400". Recent, performances of the 400m squad at Flinders is down to the fantastic effort and expertise Warren brings to our club. Recently, Warren was appointed as Director of Coaching.
