An experience at BoB2023

Published Mon 11 Sep 2023

For Jo Lawrence, the 2023 Battle on the Barwon season opener was an experience she will not forget in a hurry, and one that will motivate her in a sport where community and family is what it is all about. Let's hear from Jo on her regatta debut.

Jo Asquith

"To say I am so bloody proud of everyone and the effort that was put into the first regatta of the season today is an understatement. I personally have so much to be thankful for.

CYSM Sea Dragons Dragon Boat Club is a club like no other that I have ever been a part of. Not just one, not just two, but all of the club members not only welcome you with open arms, they call you family.

I cannot begin to thank you all enough for all the support and encouragement today while paddling in the mixed 10s 3.4km race and the women’s 10s 100m race, which we placed second and come away with a team trophy. I can’t wait for the next regatta as today was hard work but so much fun.

A special mention to three amazing She Dragons - Caroline Lawrie. Samantha French and Karina Lamb - that I was very lucky to paddle with today.

These women pushed and supported and told me I could do what I did today with every stroke of my paddle.

There is so much more I could say but it’s time for me to go and count some Sea Dragons…

C.Y.S.M. Sea Dragons for the win… 🥈❤️🥈" - Jo Lawrence
