Since its inception, our highly regarded Development Programs have resulted in many players being selected into Northern Tigers representative programs. Our SAP teams often finish in the top 4 of their divisions, and we also historically have one of the highest retention rates across NSFA.
SAP refers to the Skill Acquisition Phase, the stage of a young footballer’s development between the ages of 8 to 11. The goal of the NSFA SAP League is to improve development opportunities for players and coaches within local football clubs, while also underpinning the Northern Tigers SAP and the NSFA Super League and Diamond League competitions.
The BFC Cobra Academy is made up of our SAP (skill acquisition Program) team and DEV (Development) team. These are the top two teams from each age group. This program can be seen as a football program for gifted and talented football players. The SAP League team will effectively be the top players in each age group with the DEV team being the 2nd team. The SAP team plays in a separate league (Skill Acquisition League) and the DEV team plays in the community football league run by NSFA.
Both SAP and DEV players are required to attend 2 training sessions per week, 60-90 minutes for each session (this is held at Mt Kuring-Gai Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays). SAP and DEV players begin pre-season training 6-8 weeks earlier than community teams, with several trial matches scheduled in the lead-up to the season, they train during school holidays, and there are additional gala days and 'one-off' events.
Our Cobra Academy players are coached by both a KANO & parent coach. If you'd like to put your hand up to become a parent coach, please don't hesitate to reach out.
We understand that all children develop at different times. If your child doesn't make the SAP league team please don't let them be discouraged, they will have the opportunity to join our DEV teams and continue to receive quality coaching and football experiences.

Trials
Trials for our SAP and Development (DEV) squad teams (under 8, 9, 10, and 11) will be held at Asquith Boys High School.

Under 8 & 9 - 4:30 check in with trials from 4:45-5:45 pm
Under 10 & 11 - 5:30 pm check in with trials from 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm
Trials are open for ALL players eligible to play under 8-11, everyone is welcome. However, all players MUST register.
Please note that these trials are only for our SAP and DEV teams - all other community teams do not require trials.
