Northern Galaxy - Female Football

Northern Galaxy - Women & Girls Teams

NORTHERN GALAXY – WINNER – 2021 NSFA FEMALE FOOTBALL AWARD

“Northern Galaxy is a fantastic example of two clubs: Berowra and Mount Colah putting the needs of their female players first and establishing an inclusive and empowering culture.” Eilidh Mackay, NSFA Head of Female Football.

In 2020 Mount Colah Football Club and Berowra Football Club formed a partnership focused on developing female football north of Hornsby. Through this partnership, we saw in 2021 the launch of Northern Galaxy, 100 years after the launch of Women’s Football in Australia.

Northern Galaxy was an immediate success with the interest of females wanting to play the Female Game driving the large growth of girl's and women’s teams. In 2021 Northern Galaxy launched with approximately 250 players, and fielded teams in all age groups from Under 8 right up to Women’s Over 35, covering a wide range of skills and focus from social up to elite/division 1.

Northern Galaxy builds on the proud heritage of Berowra Football Club and Mt Colah Football Club which have an impressive lineage in female football winning numerous division 1/Diamond League premierships in girl's and women’s competitions. In 2017, Mount Colah’s W35A became NSFA’s first Women’s team to win a prestigious Football NSW Champion of Champions tournament to be the number 1 team in NSW. Combined, Mount Colah and Berowra’s contribution to NSFA’s Northern Tiger’s Girls SAP is right up there with the leading clubs in NSFA.

Sapphires

Northern Galaxy’s Sapphires play in all the age groups from Girls Under 6 to Under 11. We focus on developing our girls to enjoy their football. We offer a supportive environment for the Female Game with many of our coaches being women from the club. Leading our girls by example on how to be successful women. Success stories such as Berowra FC junior Nat Tobin who is the captain of Sydney FC, who plays in the top level of the Women’s national football competition in Australia.

Combined, Mount Colah and Berowra’s contribution to NSFA’s Northern Tiger’s Girls SAP (G8 to G11) playing representative football, is right up there with the leading clubs in NSFA. Representative Football is the next level up from Community Football which Northern Galaxy competes in.

Sapphire's football encompasses Girls Under 6 to Under 11, with players taking part in small-sided games with modified field sizes and playing numbers. As a player progresses through the Sapphires age groups the field size increases as well as player numbers, preparing them eventually for the full-size field version of 11v11 football that we see being played in the W-League every weekend. The smaller size teams and field size give the players more time with the ball which greater enhances their interaction and enjoyment of playing football.

The season typically starts in April and runs for approximately 18 weeks excluding school holidays and weather events. Pre-season activities typically start in February. Check club notices for specific dates and times for your respective playing season.
