Rescue Boat Operators

Volunteers Wanted!

Do you know someone who is free on Sundays? Do they like powerboats? Are they interested in sailing? If so they might be the right person to join the BYC rescue boat team. BYC is looking for adults to join our Race Management team on a voluntary basis during club sailing on summer Sunday afternoons. Race Management is an enjoyable, exciting and vital part of organised sailing on the bay and involves diverse and challenging situations in all weather conditions.

 

 

What?

  • BYC operates two Swiftcraft Dominator powerboats with Mariner 135hp outboard engines.
  • These boats are used to manage the on-water sailing operations at BYC, including laying marks of the course, running starts and finishes and assisting boats and sailors in distress.
  • Roles as both boat skippers and crew available, full training in BYC operations is provided. External training through Australian Sailing is provided as appropriate

When?

  • Sunday afternoons all season - approx midday to 5pm, Oct to April (break over Christmas/New Year)

  • All Rescue Boat crews are placed on a flexible roster according to volunteer availabilities and club needs. Help out as much or as little as you like.

What to bring

  • Suitable clothing to get wet in and stay warm, eg. shorts, wool/fleece jumpers, hat and preferably a windproof jacket of some sort. You WILL get wet!

  • Enclosed footwear when on board is mandatory

  • Spare clothes and towel etc. Changeroom facilities including showers are available

  • APPLICANTS MUST BE ABLE TO SWIM
