High Performance Training at the Western Flames Ice Racing Club
is designed to help athletes reach their full competitive potential both on and off the ice. In line with Australian Ice Racing standards, our program combines advanced skating development, strength and conditioning, race strategy, endurance training, and mental preparation to support athletes competing at state, national, and international levels.
Guided by Chris Nicholson — a New Zealand Olympian on both ice (short track) and land (cycling) — and supported by a strong team culture, skaters are provided with a structured pathway for long-term development, performance excellence, and success in short track ice racing.
At Western Flames, high performance training is about more than results — it is about building resilient, disciplined, and confident athletes who continually strive for improvement.
