Club Governance and Structure

The University of Western Australia Boat Club (UWABC) operates under a clear governance framework, developed to ensure effective operates, long term sustainability, and alignment with the Club's values and mission statement.

Governance and decision making of the Club is shared between the Committee, which manages operational and short term activies, and the Board, which provides strategic oversight and long term direction. THis structure ensures a balance between member-led management and experienced advisory leadership. 

The roles of each Committee member, as well as the duties and power of the Committee and Board, can be found in the publicly available Club Constitution.

 

The Committee

The business and affairs of the Club are conducted by the Committee, which is the primary operational decision making body of the Club. The Committee is responsible for managing the sporting, administrative, financial and social activities of the Club in accordance with the Constitution and any relevant stakeholders. The Committee meets regularly thoguhout the year and reports to the broader Club members at the Annual General Meeting and the Ordinary General Meetings.

The Board

The Board was established in 2008 in order to provide further financial governance and strategic direction beyond annual Committee election periods. The Board is responsible for the oversight and advisory management of the long term affairs of the Club. The Board acts in the best interests of the Club as a whole, ensuring alignment with the Club's mission statement, and ensuring long term sustainability.

 

Club Constituion

The governance of UWABC is formally governed by the Club Constiution, which sets of the rules, powers, and responsibilities of the Board, Committee and members. The UWABC Constituion was last edited in 2019 to comply with changes in the Incorporations Act 2015.  The new rules were adopted by the membership at the Ordinary General Meeting on 30 May 2019 and approved by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation, and Safety on 05 July 2019.
