History

1999 Sabot Reunion booklet (file below)“You are not getting them young enough – you have no cradle“, expressed by the late H.R. (Dutchy) Miller at a regatta in Bowen QLD in 1950. And so the search for a sailing dinghy for young sailors began.

Over 50 years later, there is alot of Sabot history to share, with a few such examples below (Files provided below that can be viewed and/or downloaded):

• From Claude Darwen’s The Port Denison Sailing Club Story, a thorough history of Sabots in North Queensland
• Record of the Inaugural Meeting of the Sabot Association of Queensland in 1960, renamed the South Queensland Sabot Association towards the end of the 1969/1970 season
• Sabot Association of Queensland Championships 1961 to 1998 and Office Bearers from 1960
• SQSA’s trophies offer an invaluable record of the sailors, boats and clubs who have participated in Sabot sailing over the years.  The recipients of each of our tropheis — some over 50 years ago — are listed here for everyone to enjoy.   See how many names you recognize!

The South Queensland Sabot Association welcomes input from clubs throughout Queensland so the rich history of Sabots in Queensland can be shared with current, and future, Sabot sailors.
