About the Spiral 3.8 dinghy
The Spiral 3.8 is a light-weight, easy-to-rig single handed dinghy that was designed in New Zealand by Alan Warwick.
Durable fibreglass construction and the simplicity of a 'one-design' approach to rigging and equipment ensures great off-the-beach fun at all levels; from entry-level training (for kids and adults) through to advanced competition up to State and National Championship levels.
The standard sail area is 6.5 m2 which makes the Spiral exciting to sail in a broad range of conditions. Sailors using the standard rig can be competitive across a body-weight range of 55kg to 85kg and the strength demands are moderate.
For younger children and training fleets, there is a 5.6m2 small sail option.
The Spiral Clan
In the spiral fleet, teenage sailors and women and men of all ages enjoy close racing. This provides a great context for younger sailors to develop their understanding of the sport, and it is attractive for families who often have multiple boats for husbands, wives and children (and grand children!).
The Spiral is administered by an active class association which promotes high-quality competition blended with a great sense of community among the Spiral clan.
