SPASC is now an Official Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Centre!

We are proud to announce that Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club (SPASC) has been formally accredited as a Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Centre.

This means young people aged 14–24 can now complete their Bronze, Silver or Gold Award through activities already offered at our club, including:

⛵ Physical Recreation – sailing, training and fitness
🪢 Skill Development – sailing technique, rigging, knots, navigation & race rules
🤝 Voluntary Service – helping juniors, race management, club events
🧭 Adventurous Journeys – supervised on-water or land-based expeditions

The Duke of Ed Award helps build confidence, resilience, leadership and life skills, and SPASC is excited to support our young sailors as they take on this internationally recognised challenge.

Note:
The official Duke of Ed Registration Fee is paid directly during the Online Record Book (ORB) signup process — not to the club.

STEP 2   Your Duke of Ed Adventure Starts with the ORB Online Record Book - Sail. Record. Achieve.

1️⃣ Register Online

Create your Duke of Ed account using the Online Record Book (ORB) system:

When prompted, select
Award Centre: Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club (SPASC)

2️⃣ Download the ORB App

Participants use the ORB (Online Record Book) to record activities, goals, and evidence.

Download the app to your smartphone:

📱 iPhone (App Store): Search “Duke of Ed ORB”
🤖 Android (Google Play): Search “Online Record Book”

The app allows you to:

✔ log your activity hours
✔ upload photos and evidence
✔ set Award goals
✔ track progress in real time
✔ communicate with your Award Leader

You can use either the app or a laptop/desktop browser — whichever suits you best.

3️⃣ Choose Your Activities

With the help of your Award Leader, decide what you want to use for:

Physical Recreation - Regular sailing, race training, and on-water fitness sessions can be logged as Physical Recreation.
Skill Development - Participants may choose to develop sailing-related skills such as rigging, knots, navigation, race rules, boat maintenance, seamanship, and leadership.
Voluntary Service - Participants can give back to the club by assisting junior sailors, supporting race management, helping at events, canteen help, safety boat assistance (age-appropriate), or volunteering around the club.
Adventurous Journey - Participants undertake supervised journeys that develop resilience and independence. At SPASC, these may include overnight sailing expeditions, navigation challenges, land-based hikes linked to waterways, environmental or stewardship projects around Lake Macquarie
Your journey is unique to you — you choose what you want to achieve.

Your Award, Your Journey

From your first sail to your final AJ, everything is recorded in your ORB.
This becomes your personal achievement record, showing your growth, skills, and progress — something you can proudly refer to for school, university, and job opportunities.
