Child Safety & WWC

๐Ÿ’—Working With Children Check (WWCC) RRDL Policy๐Ÿ’—

Rockabellas Roller Derby League (RRDL) is committed to keeping our junior skaters safe and following all Skate SA and South Australian Child Safety requirements.

Because our league includes both junior (under 18) and senior (18 +) skaters, we have clear rules about who needs a Working With Children Check (WWCC).

 โœ… Who needs a WWCC?

You must hold a current WWCC (volunteer check – free) if you:
- Coach, assist, or help run junior sessions
- Bench manage, referee, NSO, or provide first aid for junior or mixed-age sessions
- Serve on committee or in a support role that oversees or coordinates juniors
- Take any position of authority, supervision, or coaching over junior skaters

๐Ÿšซ Who doesn’t need a WWCC!

SkateSA have advised:
> “Athletes and competitors (including senior skaters) who are participating solely as players in a mixed-age training or competition environment are not required to hold a WWCC, provided they are not in a position of authority, supervision, or coaching over the juniors.

So if you’re just skating as a player alongside juniors (with no coaching or supervisory role), you arent required to have one.

๐Ÿ“ How to get or renew your WWCC

1. Adivse RRDL that you're interested in any of the roles mentioned above.
2. RRDL will send you an email invitation from the DHS Screening Portal.
3. Follow the link to complete your "Volunteer WWCC application" (it’s free).
4. RRDL will confirm once your clearance shows as “Not Prohibited” in our portal.
5. Once cleared, you can start assisting with junior or mixed-age sessions.

๐Ÿ”’ RRDL’s Responsibility

RRDL keeps its own DHS Screening Portal and WWCC Register.
- The register is reviewed every quarter to ensure everyone working with juniors is current and compliant.
- Only members marked “Not Prohibited”are allowed to work with or supervise juniors.
