FAQs
Social Sport Frequently Asked Questions
Registration
Q – What is the minimum age requirement to participate in QUT Social Sport programs?
A – The minimum age requirement is 16 years old.
Q – What if I don’t have a team to play with?
A – You can register as an individual and we will put you into a team with other players. This is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. We will be able to allocate you a suitable team based on division preference.
Q – My friend and I want to sign-up, but we don't have enough for a team. How can we be put together in the same team?
A – You can register as an individual and a question will prompt you asking if you’d like to be put in the same team as someone else. Select ‘Yes’ and then put in their full name and we will make sure you are put in the same team.
Q – I signed up as an individual, how do I know when I am playing?
A – Those who register as an individual will receive communication from QUT Sport once registrations close regarding what team you have been placed in, what time the game is and where to meet your teammates.
Q – I signed up as an individual, when will I know who’s on my team and how do I contact them?
A – We recommend arriving early on the first day/night of the competition to meet your teammates and set up a communication channel. The Convenor on the night of your selected sport will be able to help you find who is in your team and which court/field your game will be on.
Q – We have a team, but some are non-QUT students. Can we register with the QUT student team rate?
A – Student teams must be made up of 70% or more current QUT students. If less than 70% it’s at the non-QUT student price.
Q – I’m trying to register, however I don’t know my QUTsportID. How do I get those details?
A – You should’ve received an email when you originally signed up to RevSport, however, if you can’t find that email please contact us at sports@qut.edu.au
Q – I’ve registered into the wrong league
A – Please email sports@qut.edu.au and we will move you to the correct one.
Q – I’m the team captain/manager and registered but I’m unable to invite my teammates. How do I get them to join?
A – You’ll need to login to admin access and manage your invites. For instructions on inviting un-registered players click here. For instructions on adding registered players to your team click here.
Important - every player must be registered to RevSport or they will not be able to take the field/court.
Q – I am playing in multiple teams, and it won’t allow me to register for all of them. What do I do?
A – The Team Manager will be able to add you into the team by:
-
Logging into Rev Sport using their Team Manager details sent to them
-
Pressing ‘Options’ and selecting ‘Edit Team’
-
From here, they will be able to search your name using the ‘Search Members’ function on the left side under ‘Eligible Members’.
-
Using the plus (+) sign that appears next to your name will add you to the team.
-
Once completed, scroll down and make sure to press ‘Save Details’. If successful, you should receive an email notifying you that you have been added to this team.
Q – Can I participate in the QUT Social Sport competition if I am not a QUT student or staff?
A – Yes, you sure can! QUT welcomes the participation of community members into all our social competitions. The only thing to note as a community member is the registration prices will be more expensive.
Q – How long is the season?
A – Semester one and two seasons run for 10 weeks. This includes 9 rounds of regular season and 1 round of finals. Summer seasons run for 8 weeks. This includes 7 rounds of regular season and 1 round of finals.
Q – What if my team can’t play before/after a certain time?
A – When signing up, your team must be available to play during the entire time frame allocated for the day you’ve selected. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate requests for specific time slots as fixtures are scheduled to ensure a smooth competition for all teams.
Q – Can I play multiple sports?
A – Yes of course! Your membership is univeral across all our Social Sport programs. Just remember to register for each sport individually. We do recommend selecting sports that are not on the same night as you may be scheduled to play at the same time.
Q – Can I join after the season has started?
A – Team registrations will be closed, however, individuals can join the waitlist and potentially be placed in a team.

Q – Are there multiple divisions for each sport?
A – Yes! The number of divisions for each sport is dependent on the total number of teams who have registered. We split the divisions up into these categories: Social Serious A, Social Player B and Social Beginner C. Social Serious A is more competitive, and Social Beginner C is suitable for those who have never played before or just wanting to have fun without the competitiveness.
Q –What if I get injured? Am I insured?
A – Yes. At every Social Sport, the on-site convenor or referee will have a first aid box with medical supplies. QUT Campus security is on-call 24/7 and can provide further assistance when needed. All social sports players, whether students or general public members, are covered by insurance. If an incident occurs, the convenor will ask you or a witness/official to complete the Injury Report Form. If you later have questions regarding Insurance you can contact insurance@qut.edu.au.
Q –What do I need to wear?
A – Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for physical activity. We recommend wearing support runners/joggers for netball, volleyball and basketball, and cleated boots for touch football and soccer. This is not a requirement but only a recommendation. Teams participating in our Basketball, Football and Touch competitions are encouraged to wear matching playing tops with numbers on the back so that players can be easily identified by the referees. At the very least, each team must choose a team colour and wear that colour each week. It is a good idea for teams to bring a backup shirt that is a different colour in case the opposition team wears the same colour. If teams are in the same/similar colour the “away” team must wear bibs provided by convenors.
Q – What shoes do I wear?
A – Suitable enclosed footwear must be worn. No metal studs are to be worn, if worn any damage is liable on the player. Rubber-molded football boots are acceptable.
Q - What if my team has enough players but doesn’t have enough males/females for the mixed division?
A - Your team can still play however can only have the maximum allowed gender identity stipulated in the sport rule set. E.g. Mixed Volleyball has a maximum of 4 male players on the court at any time. If no females are available, only 4 males can take the court.
Q – Can I bring a friend to fill in?
A – Unregistered players will not be permitted to play. If a team fields an unregistered player, they will forfeit their game. Registered players may fill in for other teams if they are short on players so long as they fill out the attendance register and notify the Convenor before the game.
Q – What do I do if my team can’t play?
A – If your team needs to forfeit a game, your Team Captain/manager must complete a forfeit form here for the appropriate sport at least 24 hours in advance of a weekday game, or by 1pm on Friday for games held on Sunday.
Q – What is your refund policy?
A refund will not be permitted if a team or individual:
- Withdraws from the season after registration closes.
- Withdraws from the season due to injury.
- Withdraws from the season due to change of circumstances such as moving away.
- Is suspended or removed from the competition due to misconduct.
A refund may be permitted if a team or individual:
- Withdraws from the season prior to registration closing.
- Withdraws from the season due to extreme circumstances. The team or individual must submit a formal withdrawal letter to sports@qut.edu.au with a detailed explanation as to why they can no longer participate.
A refund or transfer credit will be offered to teams and individuals if a competition or season is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances such as COVID. Refunds or credits are not applied for games cancelled due to weather unless a significant portion of the season has been cancelled.
Q – Is there another competition for a higher level?
A – We offer a range of opportunities to represent QUT at sporting events to high-level competitions. Please read more about the opportunities and where to sign up here.
Q - What happens if it rains or there is bad weather? Do games get cancelled?
A - Outdoor sports may occasionally be cancelled due to wet weather or storms. A decision on each sport will be made by 4pm for weekday games and 12pm for Sunday games. Once a decision is made to cancel due to weather, that decision will not be retracted.
Team Managers will be notified if games are cancelled, and an alert will be emailed. It is the Team Managers responsibility to notify their teammates.
Every effort will be made to reschedule cancelled games during the season. In most cases, cancelled games will be rescheduled into a mid-semester break week. If for any reason we are not able to reschedule cancelled games, the result will be considered a draw, and teams will be awarded two competition points. Refunds or credits are not applied for games cancelled due to weather unless a significant portion of the season has been cancelled.
