QUT launched Australia’s first university esports program in 2017. We are positioned as the leader in the Australian esports industry, providing a pathway from amateur to professional participation in all aspects of esports. Our esports professionals lead an innovative program with community, competition, education, wellbeing and online safety and governance at its core.

Our purpose-built facility is Australia’s first university gaming arena and is located at Level 1, X Block, at our Gardens Point campus. The arena is at the heart of our program and hosts an array of community events, competitions, student development initiatives, and research endeavours across the year. Students and members of the public can access the Arena through a QUT Sport membership.

Since 2019, QUT Sport has brought together top university esports athletes from across Australia and New Zealand for the Oceanic League of Legends Intervarsity competition. This premier event fosters national-level competition and strengthens the spirit of rivalry and camaraderie between universities.
