The teams event has been a bit hit over recent years.  It is open to all comers, but you need a basic understanding of the rules.

Typically we'll have 3 teams or 4-5 boats each clearly marked with coloured flags.  Each team faces-off against one other team in a short race. The idea is to not only sail fast, but to legally obstruct the opposing team to help your teamates catch up if they are behind or to help them get a better start.  It is exciting but not as chaotic as it sounds and collisions are not more likely than regular races!

Format

• Team Briefing:
  • This will introduce everyone to how it works and they key rules and tactics you can legally use to make life difficult for the other team.
• Teams are selected by the organising committee to achieve balanced teams.
• Teams meet on-shore prior to racing to do introductions and to discuss team tactics [that will be totally forgotten on the water].
• With three teams at least two round-robyn races per team with an optional grand final between the top two teams.
• Very short course races, so non-competing teams don't wait around too long.
• Rapid on-water calcs by the Starters to add up points and work out which team won each race.
• Fun BBQ after to discuss what really happened!
