The Tasar

The Tasar is more than a high-performance sailing dinghy — you can be an Olympian, a very competitive sailor, a parent sailing with your child, a couple, or someone who has just discovered dinghy sailing … and the Tasar has a place for you. 
The Tasar brings people together. Fast, responsive and fun to sail, the Tasar offers competitive racing without the complexity of a spinnaker or trapeze. It’s equally at home in a relaxed club fleet, on a family sail or at the highest level of competition. It features a light weight, low drag, planing hull, with a rotating mast, jib and fully battened mainsail with efficient sail controls that puts exceptional performance within reach. 

Sailing Tasars covers everything from fun club sailing to top level competitive racing.  Some of the world’s best sailors including Olympians and World Champions have enjoyed competitive sailing in this class, however, the vast majority of those sailing the Tasar today are fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, couples, friends and relatives. They choose to sail the Tasar as it’s easy to rig, launch, handle and maintain with many sailing clubs across NSW and nationally having active fleets. All of this makes the Tasar one of the most accessible and enjoyable dinghies for a broader population and skill level.

The Tasar has proved popular world-wide with significant fleets in the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and North America as well as growing fleets across Europe.

Tasar Association of New South Wales (TANSW)

The Tasar Association of New South Wales is the peak body in the state for Tasar sailing. Its mission is to create a fun environment where Tasar sailors can engage in competitive sailing and feel welcome at all levels.

It achieves this by organising and promoting activities that increase the visibility of the Tasar Class, grow participation across the State and enhance the skills of our sailors. This includes positive steps to introduce new sailors to the class and spread awareness of its activities.

TANSW has created a unique culture of sharing and support for all those new to Tasar sailing. It’s a common practice for more experienced and top performing sailors in the class to share openly their tips, techniques and rig settings at the end of a day’s sailing.
