2026-27 Season Sailing Instructions

This page is the Sailing Instructions for our Travellers' Trophy Series, Metropolitan Trophy Series and Short Course Championship which is additional to host sailing club Sailing Instructions.

Note that Sailing Instructions for our State Championship and National Championship will be found on their respective event pages.  All events are listed here.

Welcome!

Welcome to another exciting season of Tasar sailing. This season we have made a special effort to condense our events to get a good balance between Tasar New South Wales events and home club sailing.

Travellers’ Trophy (TT) Series

This season our Travellers’ Trophy Series will be treated as three events, split over three different weekends. Members are requested to register with the host club (as required) and again via our event link so that we have our own record of attendance.

The three events are:

  • TT1 - Sat 3 - Sun 4/10/26 at Jervis Bay Sailing Club.
  • TT2 - Sun 21 Mar 2027 at Woollahra Sailing Club.
  • TT3 - Sun 25 Apr 2027 at Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club.
TT Scoring

A boat’s points will be awarded according to its final placing in each event, with one event drop permitted. Thus two out of three events normally count and you can miss one event/weekend and still have a good chance of a strong placing. Penalties for DSQ, DNC etc are based on the number of TANSW members who register per event.

Series Ties

A series tie will be broken by first counting final placing scores in all events (no event discard); and then according to RRS A8.1 and A8.2 where races from the three events are treated as a single series, with race discards as per MT Discards below.

Metropolitan Trophy (MT) Series

This season, our Metropolitan Trophy Series will be conducted as a single regatta at two different locations over a single weekend. Members are requested to register with the host clubs (as required) and again via our event link so that we have our own record of attendance.

  • Day 1: MT1 - Sat 24 Oct 2026, 1300 at Balmoral Sailing Club. Approx. 6 races.
  • Day 2: MT2 - Sun 25 Oct 2026, 1300 at Georges River 16ft Sailing Club. Approx. 6 races.
MT Scoring

Normal regatta scoring will be applied according to RRS 2025-28 across all races of the series.  Penalties for DNC etc are based on the maximum number of TANSW members registered for either day.

MT Discards
  • 9 or more races, 3 drops
  • 8 races, 2 drops
  • 7 races, 2 drops
  • 6 races, 1 drop
  • 5 or less races, no drops.

Short Course Championship (Sprint Series) Approx. 6 races.

Day 2 of our Metropolitan Trophy series will also be our Short Course Championship and will be scored as a stand-alone event, independent of the same races also contributing to Metropolitan Trophy placings. Penalties for DSQ, DNC etc will be based on the number of TANSW members who register for the combined MT2/Short Course Event.

Short Course Discards
  • 7 or more races, 2 drops
  • 6 races, 1 drop
  • 5 races, 1 drop
  • 4 or less races, no drops.

Rules

Racing Rules of Sailing 2025-28 (RRS) will apply to all events. If there is a conflict between host club rules and the RRS host club rules will apply.
