Tasar 2025-26 Season SIs Overview - A season of celebration!

2025 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Tasar.  As such we have an exciting season featuring great racing, great fun and great memories. It also features special prizes (a chance to win a mainsail from Sly Boat Building) and special promotion activities of this wonderful class.

Sly Boating Building Metropolitan Trophy (MT) Series

In this 50th Celebration season our MT series is sponsored by Sly Boat Building.
As well as the usual scratch and handicap prizes every MT and TT race start provides Tasar NSW members with an entry in a draw to win a new mainsail!

50th Celebration at NorthBridge Sailing Club - Tasar Promotion

Our combined MT/TT at NSC is part of our full weekend of 50th Celebration Activities at this iconic birthplace of the class. Media outlets will be invited. For this day we seek maximum participation and publicity for the class including a photo of all boats rigged on the NSC deck prior to the racing. It is very important to attend this event and that you come for the full weekend of fun if you can! In order to encourage attendance the Sunday NSC races count towards both MT and TT ‘regattas’, the mainsail prize, and of course the coveted Bethwaite Trophy.

Racing

The MT series will be treated like a single regatta spread over 3 venues over three separate days.

Expected Number of Races

These numbers are best guesses.  The exact number of races we’ll sail will depend on each club’s race decisions on the day.

• Georges River SC: approx. 4 races (Also Sprint Series see below)
• Northbridge SC: 2 races (These are also the Bethwaite Trophy and also TT races.)
• Dobroyd Aquatic Club: 2-3 races.

So we expect approximately 8-9 races in this series.

MT Drops

• 9 or more races, 4 drops
• 8 races, 3 drops
• 7 races, 2 drops
• 6 races, 1 drop
• 5 or less races, no drops.

Penalties for DNS, DNC, DNF etc

Penalties are based on the total number of TANSW member boats who compete in the MT series ’regatta’.

Note: Since the NSC races are both MT and TT races you’ll get 2 tickets per race start at NSC!

Our TT series is generously sponsored by Sly Boat Building.
As well as the usual scratch and handicap prizes each TT (and MT) race start provides Tasar NSW members with an entry in a draw to win a new mainsail!

• Canberra Y: 6 races
• Northbridge SC: 2 races (These are also the Bethwaite Trophy and also MT races.)
• Port Macquarie SC: 4 races. [Now Port Kembla SC: 2-3 races]

So we expect approximately 12 races in this series.

TT Drops

• 10 or more races, 4 drops
• 9 races, 3 drops
• 8 races, 2 drops
• 6-7 races, 1 drop
• 5 or less races, no drops.

Sprint Series Sun 26th Oct 25

The Sprint Series is a stand-alone regatta held at Georges River SC.
However each race is also part of the Metropolitan Trophy series ‘regatta’.
Since each race is an MT, a start in each race provides you with one free ticket in the draw for the Sly Boat Building mainsail.

Sprint Series Drops

• 4 or more races, 1 drop.
• 3 or less races, no drops.

Fun Race for Past and Present Tasar Sailors Sat 22nd Nov 25

As part of the 50th Celebrations we have a fun race planned at Northbridge Sailing Club on Saturday 22/11/25.
Expect some fun prizes and some dodgy decisions from our team of banned international judges.

Teams Racing Sat 13th Dec 25

Our teams racing at Balmoral SC was a big hit last season. We’ll repeat this on BSC on Sat 13/12/25.
Don’t worry if you don’t know how it works, we'll provide you with instructions on the day.

State Titles 28th Feb-1 Mar 26

Our State Titles will be held at Speers Point SC on the weekend of 28/2-1/3/26. Racing details will be provided in the NoR.
Note that starting in races in this regatta does not provide entries in the draw for the Sly Boat Building mainsail.

World Titles 5-12 Jun 2026

In 2026 the Tasar World Titles will be held in Okinawa Japan on 5-12/6/26.
This will be a fantastic event at a beautiful location.

Plan ahead to send your boat to Japan.  We expect container packing to occur in late March 2026.  Tasar NSW has no events planned after the States in early March so you won’t miss out on local regattas when you pack for Okinawa.

Handicapping

Handicapping for races at Tasar NSW events will be done using performance handicapping.

Where possible initial handicaps will be allocated based on past performance and modified after each race. If a boat has no historical handicap to use as a basis for initial handicapping, a handicap will be based on one or more early races which will be awarded maximum handicap points and are therefore dropped from the handicap scoring.
